I haven't posted anything to the blog in SIX MONTHS. <br />
<br />
I'm sure at this point we have ZERO readers because you have come to expect nothing from us!! :)<br />
<br />
Well, we have over the last 6 months had a lot going on that could have (and probably should have been) blogged about. I'm hoping now that it's summer I can go back and retroactively post about some of the things that have happened at the Jacobus house.<br />
<br />
For now, I'll leave you with this....<br />
In case you're wondering what it looks like to live in a house that is being completely painted all at the same time.<br />
<br />
Everything in the center of the room, kids piled in our bedroom since the oil-based trim paint smell upstairs is too much.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dX74xmVQ-Qc/UcryHQ6S9PI/AAAAAAAAE0w/9-Fg7Sr9VN4/s1600/IMG_2735.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dX74xmVQ-Qc/UcryHQ6S9PI/AAAAAAAAE0w/9-Fg7Sr9VN4/s640/IMG_2735.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
VERY close quarters in the living room. Sadly, our kids have adjusted to this set up very easily and "love the TV being so close"<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nj9xS2Y0Xmo/UcryIgNojwI/AAAAAAAAE04/ObsIM-RiWCI/s1600/IMG_2737.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nj9xS2Y0Xmo/UcryIgNojwI/AAAAAAAAE04/ObsIM-RiWCI/s640/IMG_2737.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TkIHlpVZUkY/UcryGyBq0VI/AAAAAAAAE0o/PYs8uprwQkY/s1600/IMG_2741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TkIHlpVZUkY/UcryGyBq0VI/AAAAAAAAE0o/PYs8uprwQkY/s640/IMG_2741.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Bare walls everywhere!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VGxkPoukj_0/UcryNC4YfII/AAAAAAAAE1Q/VIr8w7Y3mWA/s1600/IMG_2750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VGxkPoukj_0/UcryNC4YfII/AAAAAAAAE1Q/VIr8w7Y3mWA/s640/IMG_2750.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And do you wonder where everything is? Piled into the few rooms NOT being touched....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oXDP9Jpsx5k/UcryZsV7kbI/AAAAAAAAE1Y/XISaHRoSUn4/s1600/IMG_2738.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oXDP9Jpsx5k/UcryZsV7kbI/AAAAAAAAE1Y/XISaHRoSUn4/s640/IMG_2738.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OsUjCW0wLag/UcryafVvfNI/AAAAAAAAE1g/RvtOzEV8wAk/s1600/IMG_2747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OsUjCW0wLag/UcryafVvfNI/AAAAAAAAE1g/RvtOzEV8wAk/s640/IMG_2747.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The thing I am most looking forward to after this is all done is the purging of things I've held on to just because they filled the space before but I didn't really like. This job just got a little more expensive. I anticipate a trip to Marshalls in my future.<br />
<br />
Happy Wednesday to you!! Check back soon (I hope!!) to see how things are progressing around here.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p0y7RHgz_iw/UPmvBWc4sOI/AAAAAAAAEwU/WZvRpeUG87k/s1600/secretary+makeover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p0y7RHgz_iw/UPmvBWc4sOI/AAAAAAAAEwU/WZvRpeUG87k/s640/secretary+makeover.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
Last week I wrote about how a visit to my blog reader prompted an inspiration for me to finally paint my Craigslist Secretary desk.<br />
<br />
We had a very rainy week here in Central Texas and my husband was out of town for most of it. So, that gave me plenty of time while the kids were occupied to get to work painting.<br />
<br />
Remember how it started?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JlIyKNtnIhk/UPmvxZhXhMI/AAAAAAAAEwc/2odFxpF9tbY/s1600/thatvillagehousesecretarybefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JlIyKNtnIhk/UPmvxZhXhMI/AAAAAAAAEwc/2odFxpF9tbY/s640/thatvillagehousesecretarybefore.jpg" width="342" /></a></div>
The day my hubby left for a 4 day retreat/conference/wedding {three separate things...not a wedding at a retreat! ;) } I asked him to get everything all ready for me to paint. I wanted to do it inside so I'd be near the kids and keeping tabs on them so he moved it into the entry way for me and disassembled everything. Good man, Good man.<br />
<br />
I had to prime it before painting and our primer is oil-based. I can't stand oil-based paint. Not because it stinks - but because I am MESSY with painting and messy with Oil-based means a lovely bath in Paint Thinner when I am ready to clean up. So, it's not LITERALLY a bath...but really, I can get paint EVERYWHERE on my body. It's ridiculous. In an effort to protect my skin I covered up EVERYwhere. Don't believe me...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1k7DtZ-hNYo/UPmlEpA3F0I/AAAAAAAAEt0/mD8s_tDHXrY/s1600/painting+clothes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1k7DtZ-hNYo/UPmlEpA3F0I/AAAAAAAAEt0/mD8s_tDHXrY/s640/painting+clothes.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
And yes, that is a basketball hoop on our front door. Somehow my boys {old and young} decided to move it here and it gets more use here than it ever did in our son's room so... it stays {for now}. Last night it provided entertainment for our college kids after dinner - competition can be found in <b>anything</b>!<br />
<br />
After priming everything I let it sit overnight.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8_oNlKMnQCs/UPmlcmzwcjI/AAAAAAAAEuE/n1Y5YtWDDnw/s1600/IMG_1169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8_oNlKMnQCs/UPmlcmzwcjI/AAAAAAAAEuE/n1Y5YtWDDnw/s640/IMG_1169.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZYIG4sjmQug/UPmlkhG0_SI/AAAAAAAAEuM/W5FeQfubFUc/s1600/IMG_1172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZYIG4sjmQug/UPmlkhG0_SI/AAAAAAAAEuM/W5FeQfubFUc/s640/IMG_1172.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
We removed the inner workings of the desk for two reasons. One: I didn't want to hand paint all those nooks, crannies & crevices. Two: I wanted it to be another color. More on that later...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-foE5lrp9GXY/UPmlZw-3iFI/AAAAAAAAEt8/Qb_396lDP5s/s1600/IMG_1189.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-foE5lrp9GXY/UPmlZw-3iFI/AAAAAAAAEt8/Qb_396lDP5s/s640/IMG_1189.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
The front of the drop down desk had a <strike>ugly</strike> lovely to someone wharf scene. I'm sure someone paid a lot extra to have that etched into the wood. But this girl wasn't a fan. So, we used wood filler for the deep etchings and then sanded it somewhat smooth.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6PmziE6S5Ic/UPmjHXJhYoI/AAAAAAAAEtY/5NSWIkHoYTk/s1600/IMG_1164.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6PmziE6S5Ic/UPmjHXJhYoI/AAAAAAAAEtY/5NSWIkHoYTk/s640/IMG_1164.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was amazed that after just the primer coat how you really couldn't see the etching anymore. And after two coats of color you would never know it existed.
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1z9Xbqq5ffg/UPmo4HaYy4I/AAAAAAAAEvE/_Pa0GgZDGSQ/s1600/IMG_1446.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1z9Xbqq5ffg/UPmo4HaYy4I/AAAAAAAAEvE/_Pa0GgZDGSQ/s640/IMG_1446.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought a chair from TJMaxx that had a bit of sass with the zebra print, but still blends so well with my color scheme that's working in this room right now. I loved the detail on the legs.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m1te0sUlKAs/UPm3Po31t1I/AAAAAAAAEw4/LTYFeBjlncc/s1600/chaircompare.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bj3W5oDuJsM/UPmsowVg9NI/AAAAAAAAEvg/dHSK-L8h2D4/s640/IMG_1469.JPG" width="426" /></a> </div>
I love looking online to see if I can find where the chair originally came from. I never found an exact match but I did find very similar chairs at some of the big name home decor places.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m1te0sUlKAs/UPm3Po31t1I/AAAAAAAAEw4/LTYFeBjlncc/s1600/chaircompare.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m1te0sUlKAs/UPm3Po31t1I/AAAAAAAAEw4/LTYFeBjlncc/s640/chaircompare.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
We also took the glass out of the doors to paint. I wanted to remove the "panes" look that was on the front of the doors and to do that we needed to pop the glass out and then the wooden panes just pried right out of the inside of the doors. {It wasn't attached directly to the glass}<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1mhQqWpIi6c/UPm307-GtzI/AAAAAAAAExA/OW0hYT81G6I/s1600/IMG_1153.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1mhQqWpIi6c/UPm307-GtzI/AAAAAAAAExA/OW0hYT81G6I/s640/IMG_1153.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rL8R6_WyVso/UPm348OjD2I/AAAAAAAAExI/LK9wg65Da38/s1600/IMG_1154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rL8R6_WyVso/UPm348OjD2I/AAAAAAAAExI/LK9wg65Da38/s640/IMG_1154.JPG" width="426" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We ended up getting a new piece of glass cut & mounted inside the door after we cracked one side trying to secure it. It only cost us about $15 and it's more professionally secure than what we were trying to do! :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iK9a4dSWJbY/UPm5lLVxLvI/AAAAAAAAExo/V8zGy7ke8a4/s1600/glassmount.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iK9a4dSWJbY/UPm5lLVxLvI/AAAAAAAAExo/V8zGy7ke8a4/s640/glassmount.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went to Lowe's and picked up new drawer hardware. I settled on these because they were literally the only in-stock pulls that were the same size as the old ones. Thankfully, I also liked the look of them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-olKDb-6M2Ro/UPm7NOTjq6I/AAAAAAAAEyI/lSIWmIkQiWY/s1600/IMG_2895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eSK2CqLMOGU/UPms0FaTRiI/AAAAAAAAEvo/vtg68t9a11Q/s640/IMG_1463.JPG" width="426" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm so happy with how it turned out! It's come a long way since my dad brought it to me from Houston after I spotted it on Craigslist. I think I paid around $125 for it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And here it is today!<br />

The interior part of the desk is spray painted with Rustoleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover in Ivory {Gloss}<br />

<br />
One of our favorite ways to remember and reminisce about years past are family photo books.<br />
<br />
I first started in 2006 after our daughter, Brooke, was born. Back then I did the scrapbook thing and after filling up an entire album for the first 6 months of her life I realized that this was going to be time consuming, expensive and space taking.<br />
<br />
I also became frustrated that they weren't as "cute" as I wanted them to be - mainly because I really couldn't afford all the cutesy embellishments to make them cute.<br />
<br />
So. I. Quit.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCGFnaaDPRc/UPd29XxQRiI/AAAAAAAAEsM/fYLyZuaJwVQ/s1600/im-a-quitter.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCGFnaaDPRc/UPd29XxQRiI/AAAAAAAAEsM/fYLyZuaJwVQ/s400/im-a-quitter.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teenwritersbloc.com/2012/10/22/perla-proud-quitter/im-a-quitter/">{Source}</a></div>
Gave up. Threw in the towel. Finito.<br />
<br />
After the birth of our twins in 2008 I had a bit of mommy guilt that nothing was being documented like baby number one. So, I used an online source to create a digital photo book. I chose this particular company because you could use digital papers, stickers, embellishments for free and once you downloaded them to your workspace you had them forever and could use them over and over again. Ah-ha! I could make them as cute as I wanted - FOR FREE!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jmsw9eD2Lco/UPd3jK795SI/AAAAAAAAEsk/nW6Of7CDGL4/s1600/free.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jmsw9eD2Lco/UPd3jK795SI/AAAAAAAAEsk/nW6Of7CDGL4/s320/free.jpg" width="288" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://fanumusic.com/whyismymusicfree/free/">{Source}</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I was really happy how it turned out and the kids LOVED looking at it (and still do). After a few years I thought it would be time to make another one. I went back to that website and started the process all over again when I noticed all my FREE things were much, much more limited and you had to buy credits for any of the cute stuff that was currently offered. No. Thank. You.<br />
<br />
On the hunt for another option that wasn't web-based (after an unfortunate weekend retreat where a group of us girls planned to use the internet to get caught up on our books - only to find out the internet DIDN'T WORK) I came across this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mXx0STa_In0/UPd4C4KWnVI/AAAAAAAAEss/OTU2eaCDP5o/s1600/blurb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mXx0STa_In0/UPd4C4KWnVI/AAAAAAAAEss/OTU2eaCDP5o/s320/blurb1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I downloaded the free software, got to work and furiously finished a book in 2 days so that I could take advantage of the promotion being offered!<br />
<br />
And we LOVE how it turned out! It's less "scrapbooky" and more "yearbooky" and I'm so glad I made the switch!<br />
<br />
I promise the kids look at this book at least once a week and it's so fun to see them excited about it that it makes me stop and look with them and remember their sweetness in its earliest form.<br />

<br />
That happened to me last week while catching up on my blog reader. <br />
<br />
I came across Layla's painted secretary and FELL. IN. LOVE. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7EpN6MwLNbo/UPXY1e9fLFI/AAAAAAAAEqI/xjQWOdkyFZA/s1600/Milk_Paint_Secretary_Shutter_Gray_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="554" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7EpN6MwLNbo/UPXY1e9fLFI/AAAAAAAAEqI/xjQWOdkyFZA/s640/Milk_Paint_Secretary_Shutter_Gray_1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Even more awe inspiring was the before shot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KRiWNHG4Ums/UPXZEme0AQI/AAAAAAAAEqQ/urb6khyKD5k/s1600/Lettered_Cottage_Secretary_Before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KRiWNHG4Ums/UPXZEme0AQI/AAAAAAAAEqQ/urb6khyKD5k/s640/Lettered_Cottage_Secretary_Before.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
Doesn't it look <strike>almost identical</strike> VERY SIMILAR to mine!?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rdn7sA7XIpc/UPXZYdlPo4I/AAAAAAAAEqY/QkP97yeu94c/s1600/IMG_0031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i2TxQ9n6O9Y/UPXaHEKZAUI/AAAAAAAAEqg/CMw6hIM_B8w/s1600/thatvillagehousesecretarybefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i2TxQ9n6O9Y/UPXaHEKZAUI/AAAAAAAAEqg/CMw6hIM_B8w/s640/thatvillagehousesecretarybefore.jpg" width="342" /></a></div>
When I first found this on Craigslist I bought it with then intention of painting it. But, I could never decide what color to go with. I'd lived with it in it's natural state for about 2 years. I've even tried selling it on Craigslist without any success. <br />
<br />
Seeing<a href="http://theletteredcottage.net/paint-for-furniture/"> Layla's finished product </a>I was convinced. I'm keeping it! And I'm painting it! <br />
<br />
I've also decided to use it as a desk (and not just as another home for a lamp and decorative accents here and there as it has been used for the last 2 years!). I can't believe I haven't used the three drawers for storage before!<br />
<br />
What have you seen on your favorite blogs that have made you GO FOR IT?!<br />
I'd love to hear about it.<br />
<br />

I caught you up<a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2013/01/living-room-progress-long-time-coming.html"> earlier this week</a> on what my living room looks like these days. I've been so excited about the progress & the changes! One thing that I knew once we bought a new sofa was that I was going to need a new chair for the room for some additional seating. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gnwmfumxpmc/UPW65kGo8tI/AAAAAAAAEnE/eX-0Ohj8phI/s1600/IMG_1220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gnwmfumxpmc/UPW65kGo8tI/AAAAAAAAEnE/eX-0Ohj8phI/s640/IMG_1220.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Remember what we had & sold...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--_wWHnkMDjc/UPW7DpORgBI/AAAAAAAAEnM/uFi2th_z-aI/s1600/IMG_5428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--_wWHnkMDjc/UPW7DpORgBI/AAAAAAAAEnM/uFi2th_z-aI/s640/IMG_5428.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Although it wasn't what this room needed layout wise - it was perfect for large gatherings and Sunday afternoon naps. We could get at least 5 college students on it when we had different events and meetings at our house. <br />
<br />
So, the search was on for a chair to add to the room. Since the chair is going to go here...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xhxw-pt5eUo/UPXBqvbeLoI/AAAAAAAAEns/oSah-m-e11E/s1600/chairgoeshere2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xhxw-pt5eUo/UPXBqvbeLoI/AAAAAAAAEns/oSah-m-e11E/s640/chairgoeshere2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xDUmiX1pCn8/UPXBFHVBLSI/AAAAAAAAEnk/bLXYmg6DC_Q/s1600/chairgoeshere.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xDUmiX1pCn8/UPXBFHVBLSI/AAAAAAAAEnk/bLXYmg6DC_Q/s640/chairgoeshere.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I had several things to keep in mind. The back of the chair would be seen from the entry way and the chair needed to both serve as a part of the conversation group & also be able to view the TV as well. That left one option in my book.<br />
<br />
I needed a swivel chair.<br />
<br />
I don't know if you're searched for swivel chairs lately - but if you Google that term you get a lot of this turning up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uuAhY1m2s-I/UPXC-CoR4II/AAAAAAAAEoE/WoYVcC4reJ4/s1600/swivelchairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="566" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uuAhY1m2s-I/UPXC-CoR4II/AAAAAAAAEoE/WoYVcC4reJ4/s640/swivelchairs.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I'm pretty sure I don't have to tell you that those aren't exactly the style I am going after.<br />
<br />
Thankfully I knew exactly what I was after and where I could get it! <a href="http://www.besthf.com/besthf/Furniture/Home">Best Home Furniture</a> makes some of the most comfortable chairs around and best of all you can customize the fabric. <a href="http://www.shfurnishings.com/">This great stor</a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8639623214295182402">e</a> near The Woodlands, TX carries this line (as do most baby/nursery supply stores). <br />
<br />
Thankfully they had several for me to sit in and test out (and also bring my husband back to do the same). I finally narrowed it down to two options.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TIpzASStCSs/UPXGXRFjf7I/AAAAAAAAEoc/li0p5TycZDA/s1600/best+chair+comparison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="410" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TIpzASStCSs/UPXGXRFjf7I/AAAAAAAAEoc/li0p5TycZDA/s640/best+chair+comparison.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I needed the chair to have a skirt to hide the swivel mechanism and these were the two best options. It all came down to comfort and the Quinn won out! Unfortunately, it doesn't also recline which was something my husband was hoping for. Note to Best Home Furniture since I know they read this blog (haha!)<br />
<br />
Then I had to decide between hundreds of fabrics. I knew I needed a pattern since my sofa & existing chair in the room are both solid. I went back and forth between two but ultimately knew that if I went with a neutral tone I could punch in color with throw pillows and blankets and change more frequently.<br />
<br />
So, in 4-6 weeks I'm excited to have this in my slowly improving living room.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZWp7t0XIOus/UPXHa6UgGwI/AAAAAAAAEoo/8MaK40ykWXQ/s1600/chair.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="582" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZWp7t0XIOus/UPXHa6UgGwI/AAAAAAAAEoo/8MaK40ykWXQ/s640/chair.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
(Sorry for the awfully grainy photo! It's a screen shot from the interactive website)<br />
<br />
Do any of you own any Best Home products?<br />
I'd love to hear from you!<br />

<br />
Today I'm sharing some photos from my twins' birthday party. We had a lot of fun with the Candyland theme. <br />
I created these invitations after seeing something similar on the internet. God gave me the ability to "do" but not really the ability to "create" on my own. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K4h_pLaPxrQ/T6xJbmEI5YI/AAAAAAAAEWQ/gv_R25DD-_k/s1600/invitation.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K4h_pLaPxrQ/T6xJbmEI5YI/AAAAAAAAEWQ/gv_R25DD-_k/s640/invitation.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Yes this party was in FEBRUARY OF 2012.... you could say I've been a bit behind in maintaining this blog.<br />
<br />
I was inspired completely for this idea by this post on Pinterest from Parents Magazine. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q-NkSeOt4zI/T6xKO9MIWZI/AAAAAAAAEWY/fcpkAcbXPDM/s1600/candyland.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q-NkSeOt4zI/T6xKO9MIWZI/AAAAAAAAEWY/fcpkAcbXPDM/s640/candyland.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Isn't this so cute?? So, I took it and did the best I could in a very short period of time. On a sidenote... why do birthdays always sneak up on me??<br />
<br />
I created this banner using the same pattern from the invitation. I made the lollipops from Dollar Store wrapping paper tubes spraypainted white, balloons, saran wrap and ribbon. {The lollipops stood up by tying a baggie full of coins to the balloon and dropping that down the wrapping paper tube. I suggest using Helium filled balloons... this will make it work} <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WzlF6e69wP4/T6xKsSpCg1I/AAAAAAAAEW4/fNc3jbfj4rs/s1600/mantle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WzlF6e69wP4/T6xKsSpCg1I/AAAAAAAAEW4/fNc3jbfj4rs/s640/mantle.jpg" width="640" /></a> Candy bars are almost my favorite things at parties so I was excited to do this for this party. Keep in mind that candy is not cheap.... So, my dream candy bar remained just that, a dream!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Z2rtfmVhEM/UO4-trC1FoI/AAAAAAAAEhc/tn4MTILwMWg/s1600/CANDYBARedited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Z2rtfmVhEM/UO4-trC1FoI/AAAAAAAAEhc/tn4MTILwMWg/s640/CANDYBARedited.jpg" width="532" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We played pin the candy on the house which was a simple game I made using brown Kraft Paper. I drew a <strike>horrible</strike> simple Gingerbread house on it and Googled candy images and cut them out for the kids to "pin" on the house.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ecNwszwKHBY/UO4_ILvhlAI/AAAAAAAAEhk/vIiULbf0oUU/s1600/candyhouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ecNwszwKHBY/UO4_ILvhlAI/AAAAAAAAEhk/vIiULbf0oUU/s640/candyhouse.jpg" width="414" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a Candy Walk for the kids to play. I bought 12x12 pieces of Candyland colored scrapbook paper and taped them to the floor in a circle. The idea was that the kids would walk around the circle and when the music stopped we would draw a color and if that was their color they would win a prize. I never got around to making or buying prizes so when they "won" they got a turn at the candy bar. That helped limit the number of kids swarming around the table and gave the adults helping a little more <strike>control</strike> guidance with managing the candy quantity!</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TvViwdcGdcg/UO5BK7GW1HI/AAAAAAAAEiE/2JGiOLi8zwg/s1600/candywalk1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TvViwdcGdcg/UO5BK7GW1HI/AAAAAAAAEiE/2JGiOLi8zwg/s640/candywalk1.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The candy bar included lots of fun candy, fruit snacks & <strike>so parents didn't hate me</strike> to sweeten the deal for the parents I bought a bunch of toothbrushes from <a href="http://www.smilemakers.com/">SmileMakers</a> so each child could take one of those home too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vd8qnaJkZP4/UO5CMMqqpqI/AAAAAAAAEiQ/0ewsaA_RED0/s1600/candybar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vd8qnaJkZP4/UO5CMMqqpqI/AAAAAAAAEiQ/0ewsaA_RED0/s640/candybar.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bRwJH9yCeqU/UO5CMngV0II/AAAAAAAAEiU/vFwaV8AOllg/s1600/candybar2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bRwJH9yCeqU/UO5CMngV0II/AAAAAAAAEiU/vFwaV8AOllg/s640/candybar2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0000ee;">Lastly, we had the kids make f<span style="color: #0000ee;">ruit loop necklaces. I <span style="color: #0000ee;">needed a<span style="color: #0000ee;">n ac<span style="color: #0000ee;">tiv<span style="color: #0000ee;">ity to keep them occupied and entertained for a while since the whole party was to be inside (remember... February). Unfortunat<span style="color: #0000ee;">ely, I didn't </span></span></span></span></span></span></span>account for the boys who would have NO interest or the other kids who were just not interested. So, that meant that I had a handful of boys and girls running wild until the next "scheduled" activity began. Nightmare for a "scheduler" like myself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8aSC-o7ox88/UPDrg-qHGWI/AAAAAAAAEmE/R4ZJ-vadhaw/s1600/IMG_8459.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8aSC-o7ox88/UPDrg-qHGWI/AAAAAAAAEmE/R4ZJ-vadhaw/s640/IMG_8459.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r3dd7lKwdIc/UPDrg0ka2QI/AAAAAAAAEmI/O7xyDwp3LSY/s1600/IMG_8461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r3dd7lKwdIc/UPDrg0ka2QI/AAAAAAAAEmI/O7xyDwp3LSY/s640/IMG_8461.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Note: make sure your fruit loops aren't the special edition with the red "figure 8" shapes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally we had cupcakes that we bought from Sams because this Momma was tired of making decorations that <strike>nobody</strike> only I cared about. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B97QjiOEAwg/UPDsSL3k3AI/AAAAAAAAEmU/CzhiTp4CPUg/s1600/IMG_8430.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B97QjiOEAwg/UPDsSL3k3AI/AAAAAAAAEmU/CzhiTp4CPUg/s640/IMG_8430.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another note: make sure you order your cupcakes ahead of time. Sams doesn't always have plain white icing cupcakes ready for pick up. I only had a <strike>major</strike> slight meltdown when my hubby came home with Spiderman cupcakes and these with the sprinkles. THANK goodness the sprinkles worked. I really would have had a royal fit had my inlaws not been there to witness it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All in all, it's ONLY a party... Nobody really cares but the mom giving the party. Everyone else just wants to have a good time. I have to admit I've had party envy over some of the fantastic set ups that some of you mom's throw. I have to remember that it's not a time to shine and make myself look good (or fail miserably at trying). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's about celebrating these little ones who are growing up TOO fast!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gzW4kGhra-M/UPDtbqJPQMI/AAAAAAAAEms/hrVpCsRsydY/s1600/IMG_8531.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gzW4kGhra-M/UPDtbqJPQMI/AAAAAAAAEms/hrVpCsRsydY/s640/IMG_8531.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pxv1TzlPQEA/UPDmvzidnLI/AAAAAAAAElU/WfgHM2yx8Nw/s1600/signature.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pxv1TzlPQEA/UPDmvzidnLI/AAAAAAAAElU/WfgHM2yx8Nw/s1600/signature.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now only a little over a month until their 5th birthday. Maybe it won't take me a year to blog about that one! :)</div>

<br />
My living room is slowly taking shape and becoming all I dreamed it to be back when it looked like this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-82kuZkhIUOo/UPDXvAxLIpI/AAAAAAAAEjQ/uzJU3OBnW_Y/s1600/IMG_4973.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-82kuZkhIUOo/UPDXvAxLIpI/AAAAAAAAEjQ/uzJU3OBnW_Y/s640/IMG_4973.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9hXIh8FhDYA/UPDXvNfF40I/AAAAAAAAEjU/CKO-4BTTr0k/s1600/IMG_4974.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9hXIh8FhDYA/UPDXvNfF40I/AAAAAAAAEjU/CKO-4BTTr0k/s640/IMG_4974.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5X9032_wifk/UPDXvcUZq0I/AAAAAAAAEjc/bMP793nT-fU/s1600/IMG_4972.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5X9032_wifk/UPDXvcUZq0I/AAAAAAAAEjc/bMP793nT-fU/s640/IMG_4972.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Whew... I hadn't looked at these photos in a LONG time. Yes, this is how the house looked when we moved in! That's what you get when you buy a foreclosure, folks!<br />
<br />
So, then we lived with furniture that didn't work well for the room for over a year. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ywzWpF0oX0Y/UPDaMoZbXgI/AAAAAAAAEkE/406d3lMSN6A/s1600/livingroombefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ywzWpF0oX0Y/UPDaMoZbXgI/AAAAAAAAEkE/406d3lMSN6A/s640/livingroombefore.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We had a love/hate relationship with our sectional. LOVED the feel and comfort and the fact that the hubby and I could BOTH stretch out and lay down on it. HATED the worn down torn up backside and the awkward layout it created for the room. Okay, let's be real - that was only something I hated. Hubby couldn't have cared less. :)<br />
<br />
Then we had the wall issues... the couch wasn't a true "L" shape so it didn't fit into the corner which left an awkward space in the back. I pulled the couch off the walls to bring it into the middle of the room. I could never figure out just want to do with the blank walls. I can't find pictures of the room with my shutters on the wall (which I hung up to break up the blankness). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XO7U74RFhc0/UPDkkt5yvpI/AAAAAAAAEkc/-7vgFZmwOko/s1600/before1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XO7U74RFhc0/UPDkkt5yvpI/AAAAAAAAEkc/-7vgFZmwOko/s640/before1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
So I told you about our <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2012/12/goodbye-sectional-hello-new-sofa.html">couch hunt & my score on Craigslist</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5ErwvXi-W7M/UPDlit7lFqI/AAAAAAAAEko/b0m7M1ipse8/s1600/dillards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5ErwvXi-W7M/UPDlit7lFqI/AAAAAAAAEko/b0m7M1ipse8/s640/dillards.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tX_cjLhGi_Y/UPDll2xdpfI/AAAAAAAAEkw/YiO7wuUvVDg/s1600/IMG_0830.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tX_cjLhGi_Y/UPDll2xdpfI/AAAAAAAAEkw/YiO7wuUvVDg/s640/IMG_0830.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I thought I'd give you a peek at what the room is looking like now so you can see there truly has been some progress made! YAY!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7bC20ZNtnS0/UPDWy9bWhPI/AAAAAAAAEi8/vAQ0SSdp7vk/s1600/IMG_1190.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7bC20ZNtnS0/UPDWy9bWhPI/AAAAAAAAEi8/vAQ0SSdp7vk/s640/IMG_1190.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LqXzKr84C2c/UPDp37H4AFI/AAAAAAAAEls/83Yp-Cqp81k/s1600/IMG_1220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LqXzKr84C2c/UPDp37H4AFI/AAAAAAAAEls/83Yp-Cqp81k/s640/IMG_1220.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Oh and just so you also know what I deal with when I try and take photos....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dNIeRABXPyY/UPDWzQS9zCI/AAAAAAAAEjE/0fJ8CEdNG-M/s1600/IMG_1193.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dNIeRABXPyY/UPDWzQS9zCI/AAAAAAAAEjE/0fJ8CEdNG-M/s640/IMG_1193.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
Never a dull moment... our sweet Hallie.<br />
Oh and the table she's standing on is our new coffee table we built! I'll tell you more about that in a later post. <br />
<br />
What about y'all? Any of you living with a room that is a work in progress? After a year and a half ours is finally coming together!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

And the miracle is that we don't have plans to move any time soon! That's big news for us. We've lived in this city for almost 5 years and have lived in three houses. You've seen some of the progress we've made at our current house (1/2 years and counting!). <br />
<a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2011/07/kitchen-reveal.html">The Kitchen</a><br />
<a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2013/01/kids-bathroom-reveal.html">The Kids Bath</a><br />
<a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2012/05/if-you-havent-forgotten-all-about-us.html">The Dining Room</a><br />
<br />
Of course every project costs $$$$ so we try and space them out and tackle them when we have funds (and energy since we are DIYers). I thought it would be fun to take note of all the projects I would like to do over this year (and the years to come) along with some pictures that serve as inspiration.<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Guest Bath Renovation</span></b><br />
*wood countertop<br />
*white vessel sink<br />
*white cabinets<br />
*tile backsplash (maybe subway tile?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eALFK7LCOM8/UO40p5-3s1I/AAAAAAAAEfo/4Ih1FYbWJ_4/s1600/Bathroom_Cottage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eALFK7LCOM8/UO40p5-3s1I/AAAAAAAAEfo/4Ih1FYbWJ_4/s640/Bathroom_Cottage.jpg" width="416" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Master Bath Renovation</b></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">ANYTHING would be better than what we've got going on in there now. Highlights... new countertops, sinks, faucets, shower & tub. </span><b> </b> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Fireplace Overhaul</b></span><br />
*remove the 90's brass & glass screen,<br />
*de-traditionalize the mantle<br />
*get rid of the tile & add stone or brick<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.houzz.com/photos/70369/2001-showcase-traditional-living-room-other-metro"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://st.houzz.com/simgs/3551dbac0c98b7c9_8-1000/traditional-living-room.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fU1xSuA4dYA/UO43CzbdA8I/AAAAAAAAEf8/dRdKwc5MG8U/s1600/fireplace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="532" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fU1xSuA4dYA/UO43CzbdA8I/AAAAAAAAEf8/dRdKwc5MG8U/s640/fireplace.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<small><br /><a href="http://www.houzz.com/pro/wittconstruction/witt-construction" style="color: #444444; text-decoration: none;"></a></small></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>House Trim Painted</b></span><br />
I want to paint a shade of gray to make our brick color less "pinkish"<br />
After seeing <a href="http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2011/01/incredible-renovation.html">THIS</a> renovation I was inspired -- our house is basically a 2 story version of the one in the picture. Seems to be built in the same time period using a similar brick and it's traditional like this one. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PsGi9DWgps0/UO441W3xEAI/AAAAAAAAEgQ/CYd6uP78cOs/s1600/exterior.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PsGi9DWgps0/UO441W3xEAI/AAAAAAAAEgQ/CYd6uP78cOs/s640/exterior.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Garage Door Updated</b></span><br />
I'd love a new one... but the hubby has drawn the line there (so far). So, I'm thinking of faux finishing it... but it may just end up painted the same color as my *wishful* gray.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vn8EEZXvDVM/UO48OMEhvqI/AAAAAAAAEgk/erzOcL2Lg5c/s1600/garage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vn8EEZXvDVM/UO48OMEhvqI/AAAAAAAAEgk/erzOcL2Lg5c/s640/garage.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iX2CR-tzwVs/UO48T7RKqTI/AAAAAAAAEgs/EkcdIQ8SNlA/s1600/garage2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iX2CR-tzwVs/UO48T7RKqTI/AAAAAAAAEgs/EkcdIQ8SNlA/s640/garage2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Fingers crossed that something from this list can get checked off the list! </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><b>You can find all these pictures and their sources on my <a href="http://pinterest.com/lindsayjacobus/for-the-home/">pinterest board.</a></b></span><br />

Our family spent 10 days traveling and once we returned home our son came down with a vicious virus that lasted 4-5 days. Brutal way to start a new year!<br />
<br />
However, now that things are settling down I am hoping to knock out a few projects that I have on my to-do list for 2013!<br />
<br />
First up - I'm ready to show you our kids bathroom renovation. While it only involved paint and trim, it created a pretty big change and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Granted, I still need to get some new towels, replace the faucet & add some "decor" (which is pretty hard for a kids bathroom) it's a whole lot better than it started!<br />

We painted the whole thing top to bottom.... and there is a LOT of cutting in going on in here. The easiest and most dramatic part of the change was painting the cabinets. For the prep work I used Krud Kutter to clean the surfaces. I intended to get the Krud Kutter that is a cleaner AND deglosser...but I bought the wrong kind. So, I went over everything with this liquid deglosser from Lowes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mbPi54MEJsg/UOswEmmARAI/AAAAAAAAEeQ/PbdWHLA2bFE/s1600/IMG_0812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mbPi54MEJsg/UOswEmmARAI/AAAAAAAAEeQ/PbdWHLA2bFE/s640/IMG_0812.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
We set up our assembly line in the garage & I got to work priming everything.<br />

I used a small foam roller & a paintbrush for this job. The foam roller was perfect and left a great finish. The brush came in handy really only for the crevices in the door insets.<br />
<br />
Let's take a stroll down memory lane and see the before & afters!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, so much better!<br />
<br />
Details:<br />
I ended up doing a coat of primer & two coats of color on the cabinets. We used Sherwin Williams paint and had them color match to Valspar Mountain Smoke.<br />
<br />
The walls are Olympic Gray Beige. The handles and hinges are all new and came from Home Depot.<br />

working in our current living room (or at least I've complained enough
to my hubby & friends). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0gZNAPylQ8E/UMil1tkezsI/AAAAAAAAEb8/lyWjizM8n_A/s1600/before1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0gZNAPylQ8E/UMil1tkezsI/AAAAAAAAEb8/lyWjizM8n_A/s640/before1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, over the summer I found a piece of furniture on <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-craigslist-tips.html">Craigslist</a> to go behind one side of it to fill the space a little better. I LOVE the piece of furniture - but the room was still not working.{I had a picture of this with my sofa in front of it... but can't find it (and probably thought the blog was dead so it didn't matter anyway! haha)}.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-49rLFZ73Vs8/UMiq11v4xEI/AAAAAAAAEc0/wgD1WMpVTMI/s1600/zgalleriebookcase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-49rLFZ73Vs8/UMiq11v4xEI/AAAAAAAAEc0/wgD1WMpVTMI/s640/zgalleriebookcase.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
So, over Thanksgiving we went to the "big" city to spend time with George's family and on Black Friday we hit the town on the hunt for the perfect new sofa. I say "big" city because in College Station we have about 5 furniture stores in town - none of which are worth much in my opinion. So, the Big D had to have something!<br />
<br />
We hit three different Weir's, Freed's, Haverty's & finally on the way home (disappointed) we stopped at Dillard's and FOUND IT!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nIwdtt6Oty4/UMiorbLOehI/AAAAAAAAEcQ/P2PL40P2O7w/s1600/weirs1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nIwdtt6Oty4/UMiorbLOehI/AAAAAAAAEcQ/P2PL40P2O7w/s640/weirs1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JFscejbGOxE/UMiosxfbn3I/AAAAAAAAEcY/ckHe53cNz4Q/s1600/weirs2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JFscejbGOxE/UMiosxfbn3I/AAAAAAAAEcY/ckHe53cNz4Q/s640/weirs2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MrXg-zUSLP0/UMiovJ6dg3I/AAAAAAAAEcg/hmXco7OVKeM/s1600/freeds.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MrXg-zUSLP0/UMiovJ6dg3I/AAAAAAAAEcg/hmXco7OVKeM/s640/freeds.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w8lYd0UW6WY/UMipLZ4sY-I/AAAAAAAAEcs/M6TN4BUIUWo/s1600/dillards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w8lYd0UW6WY/UMipLZ4sY-I/AAAAAAAAEcs/M6TN4BUIUWo/s640/dillards.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
While I liked almost every couch equally the same it all came down to price (we saved $500), comfort (both George & I could sit and not be too uncomfortable and it was deep enough for him and yet my feet still touched the ground). BTW, have you shopped for a sofa lately. WOW it's such a hard thing to shop for. Color, comfort, style, depth, PRICE it's almost impossible to find the perfect piece!<br />
<br />
So, my next move was to find a buyer for our well-loved 8 year old sofa. After having many people come look and turn it down I was desperate! Finally a sweet college girl who was moving into her own place suckered me into selling it to her dirt cheap. But it was GONE! <br />
<br />
Next up... sell the round coffee table that doesn't work with a straight couch. Do you notice a theme here? I get something new and have to sell something old... amazing how that works! haha<br />
<br />
So, on to finding something cheap and perfect for the new layout...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We haven't posted in SEVEN months!! That's ridiculous. I'd like to say that it's because we were so busy crafting/renovating/designing all that time and we have LOADS of stuff to catch you up on. But, sadly the real reason is we were flat out LAZY!<br />
<br />
We've been busy with our families, part-time jobs, getting ready for a craft show, homeschooling preschoolers...you name it, we've been doing it!<br />
<br />
With that said, there have been things happening around here and hopefully we'll start to share with you what we've got going on NOW (and maybe catch up on months past).<br />
<br />
Earlier this summer we had a a handyman come and install new crown molding and beadboard in our kids bathroom upstairs. There were too many cuts and precise measurements that we weren't confident in our skills to tackle it ourselves. <br />
<br />
THIS week we began the process of painting the whole thing: top to bottom. Crown to baseboards. Cabinets and walls. EVERYTHING. We had a quote for someone to paint it for us because it was apparent we weren't making time to do it (remember I said the process began this summer!). However, we decided it would be wiser to take care of it ourselves. Yay for saving money - and getting one more thing checked off our list in this foreclosure purchase!<br />
<br />
I'll leave you with some before & during pictures and hopefully by the weekend I'll have some FINISHED pictures to take.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QgFzj_2F-nQ/UMiR1gAhC2I/AAAAAAAAEZA/xfbiaRkbA6g/s1600/before1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QgFzj_2F-nQ/UMiR1gAhC2I/AAAAAAAAEZA/xfbiaRkbA6g/s640/before1.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o6qcdocU7Yw/UMiR3JBXAGI/AAAAAAAAEZI/XsDTGWx76c0/s1600/before2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o6qcdocU7Yw/UMiR3JBXAGI/AAAAAAAAEZI/XsDTGWx76c0/s640/before2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkiE3NnA2ss/UMiR4StnbfI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/MYZ2ul-JVno/s1600/before3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkiE3NnA2ss/UMiR4StnbfI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/MYZ2ul-JVno/s640/before3.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-50DVtIyWFD0/UMiSczRms4I/AAAAAAAAEZY/IfK7akKPfRM/s1600/before4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-50DVtIyWFD0/UMiSczRms4I/AAAAAAAAEZY/IfK7akKPfRM/s640/before4.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I attempted to make it better by removing the wallpaper, changing the lighting and painting the walls.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9FmbyqWBOIY/UMiUpY44JZI/AAAAAAAAEZg/eWp55ORPiww/s1600/before5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9FmbyqWBOIY/UMiUpY44JZI/AAAAAAAAEZg/eWp55ORPiww/s640/before5.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ckr3un-kniw/UMiUqetQrkI/AAAAAAAAEZo/s8X09Nq0szs/s1600/before6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ckr3un-kniw/UMiUqetQrkI/AAAAAAAAEZo/s8X09Nq0szs/s640/before6.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HaOqKer8tM0/UMiUrAjaqyI/AAAAAAAAEZw/Pp7wA8DfrbA/s1600/before7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HaOqKer8tM0/UMiUrAjaqyI/AAAAAAAAEZw/Pp7wA8DfrbA/s640/before7.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
I VERY quickly realized that the paint color didn't work in that room with the awful cabinet color. It just made a very ugly room even uglier.<br />
<br />
So, I made a plan - put up beadboard (because I love it so much) which evolved into new crown moulding when my husband suggested it & a cabinet/shelf above the toilet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DWXTY7Iu9og/UMiWSB5UlLI/AAAAAAAAEZ4/YUMH6bhwrDk/s1600/before8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DWXTY7Iu9og/UMiWSB5UlLI/AAAAAAAAEZ4/YUMH6bhwrDk/s640/before8.jpg" width="426" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yj4T1f0_UHY/UMifoPrA2OI/AAAAAAAAEbg/vExWHu32afU/s1600/during6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yj4T1f0_UHY/UMifoPrA2OI/AAAAAAAAEbg/vExWHu32afU/s640/during6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-38ObZZ36D4E/UMiax0b8GVI/AAAAAAAAEaI/0kgU6f27pPk/s1600/before9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-38ObZZ36D4E/UMiax0b8GVI/AAAAAAAAEaI/0kgU6f27pPk/s640/before9.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Apparently I don't have any pre-primed before shots showing the beadboard (probably because I thought the blog was dead so there wasn't any use photographing it! :( ). So here's how it looks today after we primed everything last night.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I will make you a growth chart for $50. Because it is hand-stained and hand-stenciled, it will have slightly different knots and staining, but it will <i>very</i> much resemble my ruler. Shipping charges will vary depending on where you live, but I can check on pricing for you. </div>

<span class="Apple-style-span">I'm so excited about my </span>Pottery Barn knock-off<span class="Apple-style-span"> ruler growth chart!!</span><br />
It's a great way to keep up with your child's height and looks good enough to display in the main part of your house (versus hiding it in your kid's bedroom).<br />
I put mine in the hallway off of my kitchen. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q4nJZuGc6aU/T6ssxP5KQ6I/AAAAAAAAEHU/2HiYtsX0gVE/s1600/DSC_0093.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q4nJZuGc6aU/T6ssxP5KQ6I/AAAAAAAAEHU/2HiYtsX0gVE/s640/DSC_0093.JPG" height="640" width="386" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I first stained my 1x8x6 piece of wood and made stencils for the lines and numbers. I made the "quarter" lines 2 inches long and the "eighth" lines 1 inch long. I drew in all of the lines and numbers first with a pencil and then came back with a permanent marker.<br />
(Not a difficult process, but a little tedious.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fJgvTD14icU/T6ss1NCodYI/AAAAAAAAEHc/kmB34RFIYU0/s1600/DSC_0095.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fJgvTD14icU/T6ss1NCodYI/AAAAAAAAEHc/kmB34RFIYU0/s640/DSC_0095.JPG" height="640" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to hang my ruler (as opposed to leaning it), and since I have tall baseboards, I started my marks at 6 inches. So my ruler actually measures up to 6 1/2 feet tall.</div>

Man I love these kids!! When I have a chance, I plan to go back to their growth charts to mark down their heights up until now. And the best part about the ruler is that it's portable..from this wall to another wall or from this house to another house. I made this chalkboard wreath a few weeks ago for a client of mine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We used it to stage her kitchen since we didn't have enough time to find a larger buffet for this wall. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-siDhT3rRAS4/T6iLjUYBMqI/AAAAAAAAEGQ/YNmiZDSfIgo/s1600/DSC_0003_2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-siDhT3rRAS4/T6iLjUYBMqI/AAAAAAAAEGQ/YNmiZDSfIgo/s640/DSC_0003_2.JPG" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's how I made it.<br />
Can you tell it's dark? It was the night before her corporate event.<br />
Nothing like a little pressure, to get a project done!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I measured out the size of my wreath. The picture is kind of deceiving, but this is a very large wreath. About 50 inches in diameter. I traced a circle on the plywood to where I thought was the middle of the bundle of twigs, so that the plywood would extend under the wreath but not come out from the side. Does that make sense?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GBBhcIV8V84/T6iLoJyxsQI/AAAAAAAAEGY/Ht820mDXSn8/s1600/DSC_0810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GBBhcIV8V84/T6iLoJyxsQI/AAAAAAAAEGY/Ht820mDXSn8/s640/DSC_0810.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Before cutting out my circle, I drilled 4 holes. One in each corner of the circle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l3TITdZ-sIE/T6iLrXLnREI/AAAAAAAAEGg/HCqtpbnmcOY/s1600/DSC_0811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l3TITdZ-sIE/T6iLrXLnREI/AAAAAAAAEGg/HCqtpbnmcOY/s640/DSC_0811.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then cut out my circle. Nice and even. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lL-CyiQCzwU/T6iLu67M8wI/AAAAAAAAEGo/Mrb4AfQb6uQ/s1600/DSC_0812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lL-CyiQCzwU/T6iLu67M8wI/AAAAAAAAEGo/Mrb4AfQb6uQ/s640/DSC_0812.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I painted with chalkboard paint.<br />
I don't suggest the spray paint. I hear that it doesn't go on as smooth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2tw-QxPaiPA/T6iLx-cp2iI/AAAAAAAAEGw/dGiXqqWf-3M/s1600/DSC_0813.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2tw-QxPaiPA/T6iLx-cp2iI/AAAAAAAAEGw/dGiXqqWf-3M/s640/DSC_0813.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The next morning, I used floral wire to secure the board to the wreath. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cut a foot long piece of wire. From the front of the wreath, push both ends through the twigs. Have one end go through your pre-drilled hole and have the other end go through the twigs just on the outside of your plywood circle. Repeat for each hole at each corner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UsykuRPhD40/T6iL1OlMeZI/AAAAAAAAEG4/TNgwyWzSv9I/s1600/DSC_0814.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UsykuRPhD40/T6iL1OlMeZI/AAAAAAAAEG4/TNgwyWzSv9I/s640/DSC_0814.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now that both ends of your wire are at the back of your board (one through the hole), pull them tightly together and twist them like you would a bread bag twisty. Cut your wires and tuck the ends back up into the wreath so that they won't scratch the wall when you hang it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also used wire to make a hanger for the wreath. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cut a 6 inch long piece of wire, find a secure twig and tie both ends down about 3 inches apart.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fXxHrmZEDKs/T6iL4kGu0vI/AAAAAAAAEHA/g_DSe9e5Y20/s1600/DSC_0815.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fXxHrmZEDKs/T6iL4kGu0vI/AAAAAAAAEHA/g_DSe9e5Y20/s640/DSC_0815.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And there you have it. A great piece that can be changed out for the seasons.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xLZN_wxXTk0/T6iMV915ZhI/AAAAAAAAEHI/zdxSns5eMc0/s1600/DSC_0003_2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xLZN_wxXTk0/T6iMV915ZhI/AAAAAAAAEHI/zdxSns5eMc0/s640/DSC_0003_2.JPG" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now I just need to make one for myself! :)</div>

I first told you <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-i-envision-things.html">how I envision things</a> with blue painters tape. Then I <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2012/01/dining-room-progress.html">shared my plan</a> of action with you. <br />
Remember how it started? <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cRCcpVXlIek/T6LsiVVNspI/AAAAAAAAETw/u09Gt-kFC0g/s1600/before+shot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cRCcpVXlIek/T6LsiVVNspI/AAAAAAAAETw/u09Gt-kFC0g/s640/before+shot.jpg" width="544" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6QnAOzMnZk/T6LqsXz44sI/AAAAAAAAETQ/-aycXYYTcx4/s1600/IMG_9364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a neglected room at the front of our house... the first thing our guests saw when they walked in the door. I was fed up with how it looked and once I had a plan {and my husband was on board} I quickly got to work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I gave you the tutorial <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2012/01/dining-room-progress.html">here</a> of how I transformed the walls of the room using board and batten.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also made a plea for someone to sell me the Rowley Creek Double Bookshelf that matched my table and has been discontinued. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I lived with a room that looked like this for quite a while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pMOsLVNseQE/T6LrDM6__oI/AAAAAAAAETY/W185PD4THL0/s1600/IMG_8256.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pMOsLVNseQE/T6LrDM6__oI/AAAAAAAAETY/W185PD4THL0/s640/IMG_8256.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
I searched the internet for the right curtains to bring to the room. I knew they had to have color and had to have pattern since everything in the room was neutral and 'plain'... thanks for pointing that out, Mom!<br />
<br />
I finally landed on these beautiful curtains from Pottery Barn. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zP9_yYeFTtw/T6LyFEX7nxI/AAAAAAAAEUM/cZAt4WUa8qk/s1600/pottery+barn+curtains.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="576" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zP9_yYeFTtw/T6LyFEX7nxI/AAAAAAAAEUM/cZAt4WUa8qk/s640/pottery+barn+curtains.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I am <strike>usually </strike>ALWAYS very thrifty and so spending a ton of money on curtains is never something I do. After begging my friends for a Pottery Barn coupon that wasn't being used and having success (Thanks, Sarah!!) I ordered these and anxiously awaited their arrival. <br />
<br />
Back to that long blank wall in the back.... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pMOsLVNseQE/T6LrDM6__oI/AAAAAAAAETY/W185PD4THL0/s1600/IMG_8256.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pMOsLVNseQE/T6LrDM6__oI/AAAAAAAAETY/W185PD4THL0/s640/IMG_8256.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
I really needed something to go here and planned on searching for something great and unique at <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2011/09/round-top-roundup.html">Round Top</a> in April. I was still scouring Craigslist just in case someone was selling something that would work.<br />
<br />
I'd been searching for months for my beloved Rowley Creek Double Bookshelf and almost made a Spring Break trip to Colorado to pick up one that a furniture store's website claimed to exist (false advertising... out of stock!!). <br />
<br />
I used the search feature on Craigslist - "Rowley Creek", "Ashley", "Double Bookshelf"... NOTHING to be found. I searched nearby Houston, Dallas, Austin, etc. NOTHING. I called around to any remotely close Ashley Warehouse to see if by chance they had just one of these things laying around. NOTHING. <br />
<br />
Then the heavens broke forth and the Lord heard my cries... okay, so it wasn't THAT SERIOUS...but man alive, you'd think I had won the lottery the day I found IT... the piece I was dying to have...the one that I thought nothing else could compare or replace. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6QnAOzMnZk/T6LqsXz44sI/AAAAAAAAETQ/-aycXYYTcx4/s1600/IMG_9364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6QnAOzMnZk/T6LqsXz44sI/AAAAAAAAETQ/-aycXYYTcx4/s640/IMG_9364.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
I'm not even kidding when I tell you I couldn't call the Craigslist seller FAST ENOUGH. Nevermind that I literally had a sleeping 4 year old on my chest {Sidenote: It will never get old to have one of my sleeping babes cuddle in for a catnap}. I called the lady in an almost panic/emotional/"I've got to have this piece" state. I actually told her in the message I left "I HAVE TO HAVE THIS PIECE"... so much for room for negotiation. I showed her all my cards {Sidenote: my husband was disappointed in my tactics...he's taught me everything I know and I blew it...haha}. We made arrangements to drive an hour or so to Cypress pick it up (along with a matching table and chairs that I planned to resell). <strike>George &</strike> I called it a date and made our way sans kiddos with a trailer to pick up my newest pride and joy. <br />
<br />
And guess what y'all... it DID NOT FIT!<br />
<br />
So, my incredibly sweet, loving, generous hubby went back the next morning at 6am with a college guy and a different trailer to pick it up. Let me just tell you... he's pretty much the best around. <br />
<br />
Now, if you have hung in there long enough to make it this far on this post.... <span style="font-size: large;">Here's the room reveal</span>. It's 90% complete... You'll see what I mean below.<br />

<br />
This room has probably become my favorite in the whole house. I'm so happy with how it has turned out. The last finishing touches will be replacing the frames on the wall of our kids to be larger to fill the space better and maybe figuring out something to use as a tablescape. For now... I can check this off my list of the house "to-do's".<br />

Our little guy just turned ONE! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We threw him a manly birthday bash full of ties and mustaches. <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jVPtqttWsTw/T5_oLeJzoUI/AAAAAAAAEGE/KmEIdiNUQoQ/s1600/DSC_0801_2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jVPtqttWsTw/T5_oLeJzoUI/AAAAAAAAEGE/KmEIdiNUQoQ/s640/DSC_0801_2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used my silhouette machine and cute cardstock to create some simple decorations.</div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NJqGhm-5dpM/T4zVy2tr5zI/AAAAAAAAEDo/rpz-XPd15Hs/s1600/DSC_0804.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" height="640" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5732191495393109810" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NJqGhm-5dpM/T4zVy2tr5zI/AAAAAAAAEDo/rpz-XPd15Hs/s640/DSC_0804.JPG" style="display: block; height: 400px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center; width: 268px;" width="428" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RZvYi_qptdw/T4zVyWiiK3I/AAAAAAAAEDY/viC9908uqyY/s1600/DSC_0805.JPG"></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pwxIDlUQtWM/T56zpggVoAI/AAAAAAAAEE4/KF29an19iG8/s1600/DSC_0808_3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pwxIDlUQtWM/T56zpggVoAI/AAAAAAAAEE4/KF29an19iG8/s640/DSC_0808_3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My sweet friend Monica made these ADORABLE tie cookies!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They not only looked perfect, but tasted delicious!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XuzO9gaeVA8/T562kpRK80I/AAAAAAAAEFY/yg1WliuuQ1c/s1600/DSC_0805.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XuzO9gaeVA8/T562kpRK80I/AAAAAAAAEFY/yg1WliuuQ1c/s640/DSC_0805.JPG" width="427" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I set out some snacks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dLcD01UfGDc/T56zJi_el-I/AAAAAAAAEEg/xNjL_eu4oyI/s1600/DSC_0803_2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dLcD01UfGDc/T56zJi_el-I/AAAAAAAAEEg/xNjL_eu4oyI/s640/DSC_0803_2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And added some mustaches to the juice boxes.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YIxPgaA5GHQ/T56ziskKUSI/AAAAAAAAEEw/E92RjmAUdHI/s1600/DSC_0802_2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YIxPgaA5GHQ/T56ziskKUSI/AAAAAAAAEEw/E92RjmAUdHI/s640/DSC_0802_2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I set out nose glasses & dress up hats for the kids to play with. Along with these lips and mustaches that my daughter helped me make. So fun!<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E8cTMG7Y5Cs/T562H2fxrUI/AAAAAAAAEFI/T0ennuIjsro/s1600/DSC_0809_2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E8cTMG7Y5Cs/T562H2fxrUI/AAAAAAAAEFI/T0ennuIjsro/s640/DSC_0809_2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AA_eu02UStA/T56zYDix-II/AAAAAAAAEEo/N5X1a07Q2nU/s1600/DSC_0842.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AA_eu02UStA/T56zYDix-II/AAAAAAAAEEo/N5X1a07Q2nU/s400/DSC_0842.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids also played Pin the Stache on Davis. I made the big kids go blindfolded of course!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qnM4KoOZHS4/T4zVxejUh-I/AAAAAAAAEC4/LxLuwbkds2c/s1600/DSC_0847.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="640" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5732191471727314914" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qnM4KoOZHS4/T4zVxejUh-I/AAAAAAAAEC4/LxLuwbkds2c/s640/DSC_0847.JPG" style="display: block; height: 400px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center; width: 268px;" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While the kids were entertained, the adults played Name that Stache. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I printed out pictures of celebrities from the nose down (some easy, some hard), held each up for a few seconds and had everyone write down who it was. Our very own, Lindsay Jacobus was the grand prize winner! That People magazine subscription is paying off :)<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1lA79GkbJUg/T57kMtEyemI/AAAAAAAAEFk/q2en6rO3_Xk/s1600/DSC_0825.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1lA79GkbJUg/T57kMtEyemI/AAAAAAAAEFk/q2en6rO3_Xk/s640/DSC_0825.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Each of the kids went home with a goodie bag full of toy cars and lollipops with, you guessed it, mustaches on them.</div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3EE8S4K0QUM/T4zVxrlA5ZI/AAAAAAAAEDE/_G4t11TxHi8/s1600/DSC_0812_3.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" height="428" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5732191475224077714" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3EE8S4K0QUM/T4zVxrlA5ZI/AAAAAAAAEDE/_G4t11TxHi8/s640/DSC_0812_3.JPG" style="display: block; height: 268px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" width="640" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a fun, EASY party that I think everyone enjoyed, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
including the man-of-the-hour, my sweet Davis.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Wow!! They are SO MUCH BETTER!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oDxRrlCxWU4/T5mvj1OEGiI/AAAAAAAAES8/Q1jTEwCqoVg/s1600/new+blog+post.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oDxRrlCxWU4/T5mvj1OEGiI/AAAAAAAAES8/Q1jTEwCqoVg/s640/new+blog+post.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I would love to give you a really good excuse why Tiffany & I have been MIA for over ONE MONTH... Geez, it really has been that long. I'd like to promise you a bunch of really great things coming up soon too. But, lets be honest. We are busy moms of 3 with side jobs, part-time jobs, and "wanna be" jobs who really wanted to be more consistent with the blog thing. <br />
I hope you'll welcome us back with love and encourage us to get our rear in gear for some great posts. I will say Tiffany did a GREAT job with a really project for her kids that maybe she'll post in the near future (hint, hint). I also need to get my pictures and thoughts in order and post about my kids candy themed birthday party from, FEBRUARY. <br />
<br />It will come... it will come. <br />
<br />

We are drying off after a few days of rainy, soggy weather and the sun has come out again. Our temperatures are pleasantly warm (70's) and soon our roadsides will be speckled with beautiful wildflowers.<br /><br />I started pulling out my springtime/Easter decorations as soon as my kids birthday party was over in mid-February (more on that this week!). I was ready for spring since we had an unusually warm January/February - really some kids were wearing shorts daily to school!<br /><br />Join me as I take you on a quick tour of my house decorated for Spring.<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sGgJEoBD6GY/T15zIKaUfOI/AAAAAAAAERw/qzsEpEooNtU/s1600/IMG_8945.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719135160878005474" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sGgJEoBD6GY/T15zIKaUfOI/AAAAAAAAERw/qzsEpEooNtU/s520/IMG_8945.jpg" /></a><br />I dread the mantle decorating - but I think I have finally figured out something that works for me. {for now, haha}<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uLVMhQABd9Q/T15yuQw3cyI/AAAAAAAAERk/MXtIk8zTPTE/s1600/easter%2Bmantle%2Bcollage.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719134715906585378" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uLVMhQABd9Q/T15yuQw3cyI/AAAAAAAAERk/MXtIk8zTPTE/s520/easter%2Bmantle%2Bcollage.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CXfnfKdOCcY/T15uORn-6KI/AAAAAAAAEQk/g1r6fKiuaLE/s1600/IMG_8900.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719129768335435938" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CXfnfKdOCcY/T15uORn-6KI/AAAAAAAAEQk/g1r6fKiuaLE/s520/IMG_8900.JPG" /></a><br />I got this cute<a href="http://www.dearlillie.com/category/free-downloads"> {FREE} printable from Dear Lillie</a>. The weather here in Central Texas has been crazy to say the least... hot, cold, sunny, rainy (and that could all be on the SAME day!). So, in late February it was warm enough to feel it was "time" to bring out the spring decor. I'll show you tomorrow what it's all looking like, but today I want to share with you a free printable I created. I'd seen somewhere on Pinterest a hymn printed in an egg shape and framed. I knew I had the perfect location for something like that...<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zaoIfq6rKdE/T14C_vn1VpI/AAAAAAAAEOw/rWu4swtVjX4/s1600/IMG_8934.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719011870945662610" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zaoIfq6rKdE/T14C_vn1VpI/AAAAAAAAEOw/rWu4swtVjX4/s520/IMG_8934.JPG" /></a><br />My guest bathroom.<br /><br />So, I decided to use one of the hymns that I think of regularly on Easter. In fact, EVERY Easter I wake up with this tune in my head. I don't think it's necessarily my favorite hymn, just the one I think of every Easter. </div><br /><br /><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN77HjfAc8k">Up from the Grave He Arose!<br /></a></div><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y8Fz7AAxDsA/T14C_EdhQoI/AAAAAAAAEOk/jwVbJShxyVY/s1600/IMG_8936.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719011859359679106" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y8Fz7AAxDsA/T14C_EdhQoI/AAAAAAAAEOk/jwVbJShxyVY/s520/IMG_8936.JPG" /></a><br />I typed up the lyrics and created a 5x7 printable that can be printed on any color paper and framed as you like it. I love the simple reminder what Easter is all about. I love the candy, the eggs, and the bunny decorations as much as anyone else; but I want to make sure that my focus remains on the Main Thing.<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j067fdb2b70/T14DQ6Sn9FI/AAAAAAAAEO8/ntEUSQ8YDq0/s1600/easterprintable.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719012165867271250" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j067fdb2b70/T14DQ6Sn9FI/AAAAAAAAEO8/ntEUSQ8YDq0/s520/easterprintable.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/84978239">You can find the download here</a>. {It's set up to be a 5x7, but you could use a matte to create an 8x10 piece as well}</div><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QRmUTTvelH4/T14Fl-ypmEI/AAAAAAAAEPI/fYQWjcLxgNU/s1600/signature.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 144px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 72px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719014726875846722" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QRmUTTvelH4/T14Fl-ypmEI/AAAAAAAAEPI/fYQWjcLxgNU/s320/signature.png" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8639623214295182402.post-66735448707095061332012-03-09T15:00:00.000-06:002012-03-09T15:01:11.242-06:00DIY Board & Batten TutorialSo, the dining room walls are finished!! I showed you the <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2012/01/dining-room-reveal-still-in-progress.html">reveal a few weeks back</a> (yes, WEEKS!). Man, I've been slacking BIG TIME on the blog.<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s2ebF13KXwU/T1ljNFGRgiI/AAAAAAAAENQ/zgiGz2tPz1U/s1600/IMG_8259.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717710278281495074" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s2ebF13KXwU/T1ljNFGRgiI/AAAAAAAAENQ/zgiGz2tPz1U/s520/IMG_8259.JPG" /></a><br />Today I am going to show you how we transformed the space with a board & batten treatment.<br /><br />We started with a space that looked like this...<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ewRhEcFH-ls/T1li0a1zPYI/AAAAAAAAENA/OpjGvh8wevQ/s1600/IMG_7983.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709854621252994" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ewRhEcFH-ls/T1li0a1zPYI/AAAAAAAAENA/OpjGvh8wevQ/s520/IMG_7983.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rps7CIUH5hI/T1liz4hgCiI/AAAAAAAAEM4/sL2hXMqS3gM/s1600/IMG_7980.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709845409303074" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rps7CIUH5hI/T1liz4hgCiI/AAAAAAAAEM4/sL2hXMqS3gM/s520/IMG_7980.JPG" /></a><br />The first thing I did was measure up about 5' on the wall and primed the bottom section.<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r5PYtj_O1F0/T1linh4RdRI/AAAAAAAAEMg/AJM7ZBaYzy4/s1600/IMG_8077.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709633172370706" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r5PYtj_O1F0/T1linh4RdRI/AAAAAAAAEMg/AJM7ZBaYzy4/s520/IMG_8077.JPG" /></a><br />It's amazing how different the room looks from night to day.<br /><br />Once the priming was done we painted the wall white (in a semi-gloss finish).<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RkHI6gccAo8/T1linY3WAoI/AAAAAAAAEMU/FyLNQSPwTHM/s1600/IMG_8079.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709630752555650" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RkHI6gccAo8/T1linY3WAoI/AAAAAAAAEMU/FyLNQSPwTHM/s520/IMG_8079.JPG" /></a><br />Next, after using a chalk line to make sure we had a level mark all around the room (5' up) we nailed on a 1 x 4 on every wall for the top of the board & batten.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pttkZLScH4o/T1liaG9AvVI/AAAAAAAAEMI/BnAWnFXKd5E/s1600/IMG_8082.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709402606189906" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pttkZLScH4o/T1liaG9AvVI/AAAAAAAAEMI/BnAWnFXKd5E/s520/IMG_8082.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JsHXfdGSd1M/T1liZqh6ewI/AAAAAAAAEL8/ufYlxiPg0kg/s1600/IMG_8090.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709394976340738" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JsHXfdGSd1M/T1liZqh6ewI/AAAAAAAAEL8/ufYlxiPg0kg/s520/IMG_8090.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/---HHg-6VY3Q/T1liZX4a8pI/AAAAAAAAELw/Xjejamv9CzU/s1600/IMG_8091.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709389970469522" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/---HHg-6VY3Q/T1liZX4a8pI/AAAAAAAAELw/Xjejamv9CzU/s520/IMG_8091.JPG" /></a><br />We had a few "issues" on my measurements but it was nothing that a few RREEAALLY tiny cuts couldn't fix. Yes, I am proud of those tiny cuts.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g_jv2ZXL-ko/T1liMM-gLcI/AAAAAAAAELg/e14ARv6T_dg/s1600/IMG_8094.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709163704888770" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g_jv2ZXL-ko/T1liMM-gLcI/AAAAAAAAELg/e14ARv6T_dg/s520/IMG_8094.JPG" /></a><br />I then took blue painters tape to mark where I thought my vertical 1x4s would go. This gave me a good idea as to how many cuts I needed to make. You'll decide on how far apart each vertical board will be. Usually it depends on outlets, switches and other things you have to work around on your wall. Mine ended up being about 13".<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ulxj5XaV-ec/T1liL0vPO4I/AAAAAAAAELY/yJB4ALdAlTw/s1600/IMG_8097.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709157198412674" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ulxj5XaV-ec/T1liL0vPO4I/AAAAAAAAELY/yJB4ALdAlTw/s520/IMG_8097.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bwVzLRa2W-A/T1liLT12GoI/AAAAAAAAELM/JBaTEs_jOdg/s1600/IMG_8098.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717709148367755906" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bwVzLRa2W-A/T1liLT12GoI/AAAAAAAAELM/JBaTEs_jOdg/s520/IMG_8098.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IYAHFdyrDV4/T1lh1ttYY5I/AAAAAAAAEK8/nMWZknGL5FA/s1600/IMG_8101.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708777354453906" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IYAHFdyrDV4/T1lh1ttYY5I/AAAAAAAAEK8/nMWZknGL5FA/s520/IMG_8101.JPG" /></a><br />I set up all the boards in my garage to prime them. I suggest priming before you nail onto the walls because you'll have to do that anyway (unless you purchase primed MDF). We used unprimed pine 1x4. This will save you time later. We lined them up close enough to use a roller to cover 2-3 at a time and then I went along with a brush to get the edges. My husband and I did this part together so I could do the edges while he rolled.<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QOTy7672QnI/T1lh1AnDoTI/AAAAAAAAEK0/2oZxPy2AkKQ/s1600/IMG_8104.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708765248332082" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QOTy7672QnI/T1lh1AnDoTI/AAAAAAAAEK0/2oZxPy2AkKQ/s520/IMG_8104.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ApgLPPW49xo/T1lh084gpmI/AAAAAAAAEKo/LI7GMKJSFxU/s1600/IMG_8106.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708764247795298" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ApgLPPW49xo/T1lh084gpmI/AAAAAAAAEKo/LI7GMKJSFxU/s520/IMG_8106.JPG" /></a><br />Once I determined how far apart my vertical pieces would be I cut 13" long pieces of the same 1x4s to use as my guides for spacing (and to be the second horizontal strip going around the room).<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OIU7wDBTZ0A/T1lhpxPBboI/AAAAAAAAEKc/P4UWLckoMwM/s1600/IMG_8119.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708572142431874" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OIU7wDBTZ0A/T1lhpxPBboI/AAAAAAAAEKc/P4UWLckoMwM/s520/IMG_8119.JPG" /></a><br />We used another chalkline to mark 13" down (to make a perfect square) for the second horizontal strip. Tip: We installed the vertical piece and the 13" horizontal piece at the same time using the 13" piece as my spacers (one up top and one down by the baseboard. Some people prefer to do the vertical piece all around the room FIRST and then going back and installing the horizontal piece. We decided that if we used the 13" piece as our spacer every time then we wouldn't have any 'oops' moments where the space between two vertical pieces were either too narrow or too wide for the horizontal piece.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZkEz846EQso/T1lhpn8Kg_I/AAAAAAAAEKQ/pe78aVK35ck/s1600/IMG_8121.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708569647416306" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZkEz846EQso/T1lhpn8Kg_I/AAAAAAAAEKQ/pe78aVK35ck/s520/IMG_8121.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0ckhAYlFXio/T1lhpK4o1vI/AAAAAAAAEKE/1cGprQ0k5R0/s1600/IMG_8125.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708561847998194" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0ckhAYlFXio/T1lhpK4o1vI/AAAAAAAAEKE/1cGprQ0k5R0/s520/IMG_8125.JPG" /></a><br />Working around the room we eventually ran into an area where an outlet was going to be in the way. We decided that if we used the 13" piece as our spacer every time then we wouldn't have any 'oops' moments where the space between two vertical pieces were either too narrow or too wide for the horizontal piece.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZkEz846EQso/T1lhpn8Kg_I/AAAAAAAAEKQ/pe78aVK35ck/s1600/IMG_8121.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708569647416306" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZkEz846EQso/T1lhpn8Kg_I/AAAAAAAAEKQ/pe78aVK35ck/s520/IMG_8121.JPG" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0ckhAYlFXio/T1lhpK4o1vI/AAAAAAAAEKE/1cGprQ0k5R0/s1600/IMG_8125.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717708561847998194" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0ckhAYlFXio/T1lhpK4o1vI/AAAAAAAAEKE/1cGprQ0k5R0/s520/IMG_8125.JPG" /></a><br /><br />Working around the room we eventually ran into an area where an outlet was going to be in the way.
